LANCASTER, Pa. – After helping the Bullets beat the top-ranked team in Division III, senior defenseman
Timothy Kurpis of the Gettysburg College men's lacrosse team has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.
Kurpis, who won the award for the second time in his career, led a defense that held defending national champion and No. 1-ranked SUNY Cortland to just five goals, including one in the first half, in a 7-5 Supervisor's Cup victory on Long Island on Saturday. Kurpis, who finished with two ground balls and two caused turnovers, was chosen by Cortland's coaches as Gettysburg's team MVP in the game, and he also led a defense that limited Goucher College to six goals in a 16-6 win on Wednesday.
For the season Kurpis, a preseason First Team All-American, has helped Gettysburg hold its opponents to 5.75 goals per game.
The Bullets (4-0), ranked No. 1 in the new USILA Division III Top-20 Poll, return to the field on Tuesday, when they host Merchant Marine at 3 p.m. in a non-conference outing.
