LANCASTER, Pa. – The Bullets were picked to finish where they ended last season in the Centennial Conference as the coaches placed the women's soccer program sixth in the preseason poll released on Thursday.
Gettysburg was situated in a logjam in the middle of the preseason poll with just four points separating the Orange and Blue from the No. 4 spot held by Muhlenberg College with 67 points. Haverford College was fifth with 65 points followed by Gettysburg with 63.
Johns Hopkins University was named the Centennial favorite following its fifth consecutive title in 2009. The Blue Jays received 10 first-place votes and the maximum of 100 points from the league's coaches. Dickinson College finished a distance second with 85 points and received the lone remaining first-place nod, while Swarthmore College locked onto the third position with 78 points.
Ursinus College (53 points), Franklin & Marshall College (32 points), McDaniel College (30 points), Washington (Md.) College (19 points), and Bryn Mawr College (13 points) rounded out the rankings.
Gettysburg narrowly missed a playoff opportunity last season, finishing sixth in the conference with a 4-5-1 record and a 9-7-1 mark overall. The Bullets open the 2010 campaign on Sept. 4-5 with a pair of night matches at Clark Field against Susquehanna University and Ramapo College, respectively, beginning at 7 p.m.
