NEW YORK – Five Gettysburg indoor track & field records were set Saturday evening at the fast, competitive Columbia University Last Chance Meet, held at the Armory in New York City.
The meet consisted primarily of Division I, Division III, and unattached competitors.
Senior
Clay Reynolds broke a one-year-old record in the mile, just edging the mark set last season by current Gettysburg assistant coach
Adrian Macdonald, who ran 4:12.78 at the same meet a year ago to break a 33-year-old school record. Running on a banked track, Reynolds was clocked in 4:12.21, but placed 19th among 32 runners in an incredibly fast event that saw the top three finishers ran four minutes flat. He also lowered his NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying time; the championship field will be announced Sunday evening.
Less than an hour after the mile, Reynolds came back to run a respectable 1:58.04 in the 800-meter run to finish 31st of 35 competitors.
Junior
Brenden Repack took over three seconds off his own school record in the 3,000-meter run, taking 25th among 30 runners in 8:46.65.
In the same event, sophomore
Christine Esposito ran 10:26.11 – a 17-second PR – to eclipse the former school record of 10:27.08 set by Alex Felix in 2003.
Other records were set by sophomore
Andrew Bay in the 60-meter dash and senior
Nick Rosenberger in the 60-meter hurdles. Bay was timed at 7.29 seconds and took 10th out of 13 competitors while Rosenberger posted an 8.58 to take eighth in a field of 11.
Freshman
Ashanti Foster-Felder also concluded a spectacular indoor season with a pair of stellar showings in the 200- and 400-meter dash. In the 400, he finished fifth out of 15 runners and came up just 0.16 seconds shy of the school record, clocking a 49.66. He was also 11th out of 13 finishers in the 200, crossing the line in 22.99.
Gettysburg opens its outdoor season March 23 at Messiah College with a tri-meet that also includes Juniata College.
