Swimmers Take Two At Swarthmore, Stay Undefeated

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's and women's swimming teams both remain undefeated following their Centennial Conference wins at Swarthmore College on Saturday.

The men's team (6-0, 4-0 CC) cruised to a 150-55 victory while the women's squad (7-0, 5-0 CC) posted a 110-95 verdict in a meet that came down to the final relay.

Freshman Mike Harmon and senior Roger Nawrocki each won two individual events for the men's team, which claimed 10 of 11 events and swept both relays along with the two individual freestyles and the 200-backstroke. Harmon touched first in the 50-freestyle (21.94) and the 200-back (1:57.38) while Nawrocki triumphed in both the 200-IM (2:03.24) and the 200-breaststroke (2:17.23).

Other individual men's winners were senior Drew Close in the 200-freestyle (1:46.14), freshman Woody Griffiths in the 200-butterfly (2:03.81), senior Matt Libby in the 100-freestyle (47.50), and sophomore Sean Staerk in the 500-freestyle (4:56.12).

In relay action, the men's 400-medley squad of Harmon, Nawrocki, Libby, and freshman Ashton Leyens won in 3:36.38 while the 400-freestyle foursome of Leyens, freshman Jason Potter, freshman Stu Cubbison, and Libby logged a winning time of 3:13.45.
                                        
Freshman Haley Weaver won two events and anchored the winning 400-free relay (3:44.09) that decided the outcome of the women's meet. Weaver captured both the 200-freestyle (1:56.75) and the 200-backstroke (2:11.74) while classmate Cooper Kearns added a victory in the 1,000-freestyle (10:54.00). Joining Weaver on the 400-free relay were sophomore Ali Roth, junior Cassie Close, and  junior Caroline Coolidge.

Gettysburg hits the water again Wednesday, when it travels to Dickinson College for a Centennial Conference meet starting at 7 p.m.
