Women’s Lacrosse Ring Presentation, Banner Raising to Take Place Between Basketball Games

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – A full slate of celebratory events are on tap when the men's and women's basketball teams host Washington College in a Centennial Conference doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 11.

“Hoops and Rings” will feature an alumni game, two senior day ceremonies, a conference championship reunion, and a women's lacrosse national championship ring and banner presentation – all taking place inside Bream Gymnasium.

A men's basketball alumni game will kick off the day's events at noon, and the three seniors on the men's varsity team will be recognized in a ceremony prior to the start of its game at 2 p.m. At halftime, the men's basketball teams that won back-to-back Centennial Conference championships in 2000-01 and 2001-02 under current head coach George Petrie will be recognized as part of their 10th anniversary celebration. The '00-01 squad was the first Gettysburg men's basketball team to win a conference title in 62 years, and the Bullets became the first school to win consecutive Centennial Conference men's basketball titles.

Following the conclusion of the men's game, the women's lacrosse team will be featured one more time before moving on to the defense of its national title as the members of the program will receive their national championship rings. Each member of the 2011 lacrosse team, including student-athletes, coaches, and administrators, will receive a ring commemorating the team's 2011 NCAA Division III title. Additionally, a national championship banner will be raised to the rafters, joining Gettysburg's only other national title banner won by the 1980 field hockey team. Under the direction of Head Coach Carol Cantele '83, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Coach of the Year, Gettysburg swept through the NCAA playoffs, culminating in a 16-5 victory over Bowdoin College in the national title game. Live video footage of the ring and banner ceremony will be available at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/gettysburg.portal#.

Concluding the big day will be head coach Mike Kirkpatrick's women's basketball team, winner of its last seven games, which will conduct its Senior Day to honor the squad's four seniors prior to its tip-off at 4 p.m.
