GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's and women's swimming teams will look to defend their Centennial Conference (CC) titles this weekend when Gettysburg serves as the host site for the 2012 CC Championships. The three-day event will be held from Friday through Sunday at the Gettysburg College Bullets Pool.
Both Bullet squads enter the championship riding high after turning in undefeated dual meet seasons. The women's team finished 9-0 and 7-0 in the Centennial Conference while the men's squad was 8-0 and 6-0 in CC action.
The meet features a trials and finals session each day, beginning with Friday's trials at 11:30 a.m. The meet concludes with finals on Sunday at 6 p.m.
It is the second year in a row that Gettysburg has hosted the Centennial Conference Championships. Last season marked the first time the Bullets hosted a conference swimming meet in 45 years. The Gettysburg College Bullets Pool is in its second full season of operation after opening in January of 2010.
The men's team, which has won a CC-leading nine crowns, is in the midst of an incredible season in which it won each of its dual meets by at least 28 points. Boasting incredible depth, the Bullets enter the meet owning four of the five Centennial Conference relay records, which they set at their own Final Fall Fast Festival Dec. 2-3. They broke CC standards in all but the 400-medley, and they set school records in all five relays.
Heading into Thursday night's scratch deadline, Gettysburg was seeded first in 14 of 18 events, including all five relays. Freshman
Mike Harmon is the top seed in the 200-IM as well as both the 100- and 200-backstrokes after setting school records in both the 200-IM and 200-back earlier this season.
Senior
Matt Libby, the Centennial Conference record-holder in both the 100- and 200-freestyle, is the top seed in both events. He leads a Bullet 100-freestyle contingent that owns the top-seven fastest qualifying times. Classmate
Roger Nawrocki) is ranked first in both the 100- and 200-breaststroke.
Other top seeds are seniors
Drew Close in the 500-freestyle and
Pat McDevitt in the 400-IM.
The women's squad, which has won a conference-leading 12 CC crowns, owns the top seed in two relays – the 200-freestyle and 400-freestyle. In addition, sophomore
