2012 IWLCA NCAA Division III All-Region Teams

GRAND LAKE, Colo.
– Gettysburg College tied a program record with six players named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) NCAA Division III All-Metro Region Team on Friday, May 18.

Four Bullets were tagged with first-team accolades, including senior Hannah Church's second consecutive selection. Senior Maddie Coleman and junior Lindsey Robinson each bumped up from second-team honors a year ago, while junior Alex Casey earned her first regional distinction.

Junior Mairead McGuirk and sophomore Loren Pruitt each picked up all-region accolades for the first time as members of the second team. The six selections tied the school's total from the 1994, 2006, and 2007 seasons.

Church was at the top of her game once again as the leader of Gettysburg's offensive attack. The 2012 Centennial Conference Player of the Year, she put up 97 points this spring, making her just the second Bullet ever to rack up 90 or more points in back-to-back seasons, and the first since Julika Blankenship '04 in 2003 and 2004. Church's point total came on 71 goals and a career-high 26 assists. She put up multiple goals in the final 16 games of her collegiate career, including 10 scores in three NCAA Tournament games. Church finished second all-time at Gettysburg with 210 career goals and she tied for third with 272 points.

Coleman saved her best season for last in the Bullets goal. In the latest national statistics, she rated 10th in both save percentage (.534) and goals against average (7.37) and she posted a career-high 167 saves this spring. Tabbed first-team All-CC for the second year in a row, her GAA this season marked the fourth-best in school history. Coleman logged 10 or more stops in half a dozen games, including a career-high 16 against No. 19 Stevenson University on March 12. She closed her career in goal ranked second in school history with a 7.37 GAA.

Robinson earned first-team honors after serving as the primary facilitator of Gettysburg's offense. She turned in personal bests with 44 goals, 40 assists, and 84 points this spring with her assist total ranking sixth in the school record book. Robinson caught fire near the end of the season, putting up nine points against No. 7 Franklin & Marshall College on April 18 and then combining for 11 points in two games in the Centennial Conference Tournament. Heading into her final season at Gettysburg, she already ranks fifth with 87 career assists and she is 11th with 189 points.

Casey stepped into a leading role for Gettysburg's defensive unit, which ranks 10th in the latest national stats in scoring defense. The junior defender, who was also tabbed All-CC First Team, started all 21 games and led the team with a career-high 27 caused turnovers. She finished second on the team with 44 ground balls and she logged 14 draw controls, both numbers also marking personal bests. In the opening round of the NCAA playoffs against Cabrini College, Casey posted four caused turnovers and two ground balls.

McGuirk picked up her first regional honor as a key member of the defense and as Gettysburg's primary draw specialist. Like Casey, the junior set personal marks in all relevant statistics, including leading the team with 59 draw controls. She also posted 22 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers, and two assists. McGuirk shined in the Centennial Conference championship game against Washington College, posting six draw controls, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers. She is tied for ninth in school history with 113 draw controls.

Pruitt rounded out Gettysburg's all-region nods as an attacker. The sophomore backed up a strong debut campaign by finishing second on the team with 52 goals. A second-team all-conference selection, Pruitt posted a career-high six goals against Swarthmore College on March 31 and she notched five goals against No. 13 Stevens Institute of Technology on March 13. In just two seasons, she has racked up 90 goals and 102 points.

These athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on May 24. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on June 16, 2012 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.

Gettysburg closed the season with a 19-2 overall record. The Bullets won their seventh Centennial Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons. Gettysburg, the 2011 national champion, was upset by No. 6 Middlebury College 15-9 in the national quarterfinals.
