2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Softball Team
TOWSON, Md. –
Adrienne Rahs capped an outstanding career at Gettysburg College by being named to the Capital One Academic All-American Division III Softball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and released on Tuesday, May 22.
Rahs is a second-team honoree and she becomes the third softball player to earn Academic All-America status at Gettysburg, joining 2005 graduates
Molly Gale, who was a three-time selection, and
Megan Pilarcik. Both Gale and Pilarcik were selected Academic All-America First Team in 2005. Rahs is the 18th Academic All-American in school history.
A two-time Academic All-District selection, including first-team recognition this spring, Rahs turned one of the best careers ever put together on the Gettysburg diamond. She was a four-time All-Centennial Conference selection, earning first-team accolades in both 2010 and 2012, and she was named All-East Region Third Team this spring after hitting .366 with a school-record tying seven home runs and a school-record 45 RBI.
Rahs closed her career sharing or holding 13 game, season, and career records at Gettysburg. She also set the Centennial career mark with 45 doubles, breaking the previous record held by current Bullets coach
Sam Abrams. Rahs was just the second Gettysburg player ever to record 100 runs and 100 RBI, finishing with 108 and 111, respectively. During her four seasons in the lineup, Rahs helped Gettysburg win 88 games and reach the conference playoffs three times.
Equally impressive was her performance away from the field. A mathematics major, Rahs posted a perfect 4.0 GPA. She was named Phi Beta Kappa and was selected to the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society. At Gettysburg's recent Commencement festivities, Rahs was given the Noerr Award for athletic achievement, scholarship, and character. She was also a founding leadership mentor in the Garthwaith Leadership Center.
Rahs was one of just three catchers to garner Academic All-America, finishing second in the voting to Division III Academic All-American of the Year Kelsey Kittleson of Luther College. Kittleson maintained a 4.0 GPA in biology, was a second-team All-American, and led Luther to a fifth-place finish in the NCAA playoffs.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
