YORK, Pa. – Freshman
Camden Stoops (Prospect, Pa./Eastern York) racked up a pin at heavyweight as the Gettysburg College wrestling team dropped a 39-6 decision at York (Pa.) College on Saturday.
Gettysburg (4-18) came up empty in the first eight bouts before Stoops put Aaron Leeking on his back with 32 seconds left in the second period in the heavyweight bout. It was the first-year's fourth pin of the season, tying him with fellow freshman
Brandon Carcuffe (Oxford, N.J./West Morris Central) for the team lead.
Senior
Matt Spano (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) was kept from moving a victory closer to 100 for his career with a 6-3 loss to Joey Giaccio at 141 pounds. Spano remains at 98 wins with the Centennial Conference Championship and NCAA East Regional Championship still remaining.
Carcuffe narrowly missed a victory at 149 as Victor Signorelli scored a takedown in overtime en route to a 4-2 decision.
Gettysburg heads to the conference championship tournament hosted by Ursinus College on Saturday, Feb. 22. Opening matches begin at 10 a.m.
