GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College wrestling team won seven bouts on the way to a 22-11 victory over McDaniel College inside Bream Gym on Wednesday night.
Gettysburg (8-6, 2-3 CC) picked up its first win over McDaniel (11-5, 4-2 CC) since a 24-12 win over the Green Terror on Feb. 5, 2008. The Green Terror had won the last eight decisions against the Bullets.
Sophomore Lenny Ogozalek (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) put the hosts in front with an 11-6 win over Mike O'Boyle at 125 pounds. After O'Boyle pulled to 7-6, the Gettysburg grappler tallied the final four points with an escape, takedown, and the riding time point.
The Green Terror jumped in front 7-3 with a decision and major decision at 133 and 141. Sophomore Quinn Merrigan (Canton, Mass./Canton) evened the team score with a 17-6 major decision over Trey Mitchell at 149. Merrigan put up 11 points in the opening period on the way to improving to 17-4 this season.
McDaniel was deducted a team point during the 157-pound match and freshman Colin Kowalski (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) added to the advantage with an 8-6 victory. Senior Tyler Cunningham (East Berlin, Conn./Xavier) made the most of his last appearance in front of the home crowd by securing a late takedown in a 3-2 win at 165 pounds.
Freshman Crawford Oswald (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) pushed Gettysburg in front 16-6 with a 4-3 win over Ronnie Wuest at 174. After McDaniel sliced the deficit to five with a technical fall at 184 pounds, the Bullets sealed the win with decisions in the final two bouts. Sophomore Anthony Puca (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) ran off the final five points in a 12-6 win at 197, while junior Camden Stoops (East Prospect, Pa./Eastern York) picked up his 20th win of the campaign with a 7-2 decision at heavyweight.
Additionally, junior Brandon Carcuffe (Oxford, N.J./West Morris Central) earned a 12-6 victory in an exhibition match at 157 pounds.
Gettysburg has a busy weekend ahead with three Centennial Conference duals and an event at Messiah College.
