GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The student-athletes, coaches, and staff members at Gettysburg College are racing to support Black Lives Matter and are joining institutions across the nation in running, biking, and/or swimming 8.46 miles on June 8.
Started by women's soccer players at the University of California-Santa Barbara in the wake of George Floyd's wrongful death, the Collegiate Athletes For Black Lives Matter Fundraiser is designed to get people active and motivated to donate to the fight against racism and inequality, while acknowledging the 8 minutes and 46 seconds that Floyd was forcibly held down by Minnesota police on May 25.
Participants are encouraged to perform 8.46 miles of activity throughout the day or engage in an activity for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. After completion, post the results and share pictures/videos on social media and tag
@ATHLETES4CHNGE with the hashtags
#athletez4blm and
#athletes4changes so others can be inspired and motived to actively support the Black Lives Matter movement.
All donations to this fund will go directly to
Black Lives Matter. Black Lives Matter is a nationwide organization that actively fights against the social injustices and inequalities that Black Americans have endured for over 400 years.
