Toppy was one of the finest baseball pitchers the College has seen, tossing many full games with only a day's rest. During his senior year, he pitched 10 straight victories, a record which lasted more than seven decades.
A native of Lancaster, Pa., he was known as a star of great magnitude. He was a wonderful open field runner who established records not surpassed by any quarterback at Gettysburg up to that time.
