He was the first Gettysburg man to enter the 100-yard dash in the Penn Relays, going against the best in the East and placing fourth. He set the school records in the 220 and 440-yard dashes and captured 11 first places his senior year.
He was captain of the basketball team and played the right halfback slot on the football team.
A native of Renova, Pa., he returned to his Alma Mater to become its first athletic director. He also coached several sports, including the 1918 football team.
