He played third base on the baseball team and was a long jumper in track. However, when it came to football and basketball he was outstanding.

A native of Lancaster, Pa., he played right halfback in football and in his first collegiate game, scored two touchdowns. He went on to help Gettysburg post four straight winning seasons.

As a guard in basketball, he teamed with Eddie Gulian in making one of the most clever backcourt combinations the bullets had ever seen up to that time. While he was in the backcourt, Gettysburg never experienced a losing season, recording 34 wins, 22 defeats and capturing the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference championship.
