Stan Gray used his speed to run his way into the record books as a two-sport standout in football and baseball.
On the diamond, Gray made his mark as one of the top players in the conference, twice earning a spot on the Middle Atlantic Conference Southern Division All-Star First Team as a centerfielder. For his career, he piled up impressive totals of 91 hits and 53 stolen bases in just 73 games.
As a sophomore, Gray batted .323 and swiped 14 bases in just 16 games. Two years later, he posted the best season of his collegiate career and nearly led the Bullets to a conference title.
Gray was nearly unstoppable on the basepaths as a senior, stealing a school-record 24 bases on 29 attempts to finish sixth in Division III. A team captain, he also batted .349 and captured his second all-conference nod. He helped the Bullets reach the MAC Southern Division championship game and finish 12-10-1, the team’s best record in nine years.
On the gridiron, Gray excelled as a split end and led the Bullets in receiving as a sophomore. A three-year letterwinner, he caught 53 passes for his career to finish with 562 yards.
A native of Forest Hill, Md., Gray graduated from Gettysburg in 1977 with a degree in business administration.
