Linda Lee Papuga set the standard for the Gettysburg women’s soccer program in its infancy, twice earning All-Middle Atlantic Conference accolades as a result of her offensive prowess.

The Bullet soccer program began play in 1988 and Papuga was there from the beginning, leading the team in scoring each of her four years. In fact, she led Gettysburg to its first win by nailing the only goal in a 1-0 victory over St. Mary’s in 1988. One of the best clutch players in school history, Papuga tallied nine game-winning goals and assisted on four others during her tenure.

In 1989, she tallied her only hat trick against Wilkes and added an assist for a school record seven points. The following season, Papuga became the first women’s soccer player in school history to land postseason honors when she was tabbed second-team All-MAC. As the team captain in 1991, she was named first-team all-conference.

Papuga ended her career with 26 goals and 11 assists in varsity action, however, Gettysburg also played 13 contests against club teams in which she tallied an additional dozen goals and eight assists. When she put a tally in the scorebook, the Bullets were near unbeatable, winning 28 of 36 varsity and club contests from 1988 to 1991.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Papuga graduated from Gettysburg in 1992 with a degree in computer science.
