He was the iron man of Gettysburg football. As a sophomore tackle, he played in every game of the eight game schedule. A substitute took his place in the final 10 seconds of the Dickinson game and another for the last minute of the F&M game. He was not a flashy lineman, but he played the game hard. He was a consistent player and steady tackler. At the time, he was one of the biggest men on the team at 6', 178-pounds. From his very early years, he developed a sense of responsibility and dedication

He was the type of player who could play anywhere and always put forth his best effort. He lettered three years in basketball playing on some of Gettysburg's finest teams. He played forward in basketball and he threw the javelin in track. He even played a little baseball, but gave it up to return to the javelin.

A native of Harrisburg, Pa., he returned to his Alma Mater in 1963 to serve as Alumni director and director of planned giving until his retirement.
