Despite playing in the shadows of two of Gettysburg's greatest basketball players, Ted was able to hold his own as a sophomore. In that first varsity year, he came off the bench to score all the points in the last 1:22 to beat Hofstra. As a senior he scored 32 points in a slim loss to LaSelle in the Penn Palestra. He tied the Palestra record with his 16 field goals and received a standing ovation by the Philadelphia fans for his amazing accuracy. He completed his basketball career with 782 points, landing 54 percent of his 798 field goal attempts and 76 percent of his 153 foul shots.
He was a pitcher in baseball, registering 13 career wins and eight losses and had a 2.22 ERA. The highlight of his career came when he pitched Gettysburg to a 7-2 upset win over St. John's in the NCAA Division I regional tournament at Penn State.
Following graduation, he spent five years as a pitcher in the Braves Farm system.
