"Jake" came to Gettysburg from Reading, Pa. He was a natural athlete who did everything well, which included playing quarterback in football, forward in basketball and third base in baseball.

Although he stood out in football despite his No. 13 jersey, his main concentrations were basketball and baseball. He was the leading basketball scorer for three varsity years with a high of 115 points as a sophomore.

He was a powerful defensive third baseman, committing only nine errors in 113 career chances. He batted a career .297 and scored 45 runs in three seasons. He was a long-ball hitter, registering two home runs in a game against Albright. He also possessed blazing speed, stealing 16 bases.
