Women’s Golf Finishes Fourth at Cortland, Breaks School Record

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Gettysburg College women's golf team set a new school standard for a 36-hole tournament by recording a 706 (354-352) at the SUNY Cortland Martin & Wallace Invitational on Oct. 3-4. The Bullets finished fourth overall among nine scoring teams led by junior Marybeth Scott (Chester Springs, Pa./The Hill School) tie for 19th.

Allegheny College, ranked seventh in the latest national rankings, took the team title with a two-day total of 643 (321-322), easily out-distancing host Cortland by 20 strokes on the par-72, 5,816-yard course at the Cortland Country Club. New York University grabbed third overall at 665 behind medalist Theresa Apoznanski's 151 (75-76).

Gettysburg shattered its previous 36-hole team record of 721 set at the 2008 Centennial Conference Championship. Scott paced a cluster of Bullets with a 175 after shaving nine strokes off her opening-round score of 92 to card a career-best 83 on Sunday.

Sophomore Caroline Nathan (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) also improved her score from the first day, dropping from 93 to 86 to finish in a tie for 23rd. Junior Leah Tuscano (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) tied a career best with an 82 in the opening round before falling to 98 on the second day and tying teammate Shelby Glass (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven Regional), who carded back-to-back rounds of 90, for 25th with a score of 180.

Freshman Molly Nulty (Gettysburg, Pa./Homer) rounded out Gettysburg's starting five with a 183 (90-93), placing 29th overall. Junior Alex Moran (Boxford, Mass./The Governor's Academy) competed as an individual and finished tied for 45th with a 208 (99-109).

Gettysburg closes the fall portion of its schedule this Thursday, Oct. 8, at the McDaniel Invitational hosted by Piney Branch Golf Club.
