HAMPSTEAD, Md. – Sophomore
Caroline Nathan (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) won her first event of the year on a tiebreaker and the Gettysburg College women's golf team closed the fall with a first-place finish at the McDaniel College Fall Invitational hosted by the Piney Branch Golf Club on Thursday, Oct. 8.
Gettysburg, which has won four events in each of the past two seasons, captured its first team title this season with a score of 365, four strokes better than host McDaniel on the par-72, 5,870-yard course and future site of the 2010 Centennial Conference Championship. Franklin & Marshall College was third overall at 398.
Nathan earned her fourth career individual medal on a tiebreaker after posting a season-low tying 86 to tie for the lowest round with University of Pennsylvania's Elizabeth Kresock.
All five Gettysburg competitors finished in the top 12 among the field of 22. Sophomore
Shelby Glass(Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven Regional) and freshmen
Molly Nulty (Gettysburg, Pa./Homer) and
Molly Smith (Sparta, N.J./Pope John) each tied for eighth with 93s, while junior
Leah Tuscano (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) carded a 95 for 12th.
Gettysburg finished the fall with a team scoring average of 359.6, eight strokes better than the team record set just last season. The Bullets will resume their schedule next spring seeking their second conference title in the last three years.
