All-Centennial Conference Team

LANCASTER, Pa. –
Following the team's winningest season in four years, the Gettysburg College field hockey squad had five players named to the All-Centennial Conference team, it was announced Wednesday.

Earning a spot on the first team were senior midfielder Vanessa Pabon (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) and senior forward Lexie Hearn (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) while senior midfielder Molly Latta (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) and senior goalie Christina Anderson (Dunkirk, Md./Calverton School) captured second-team honors. In addition, junior defender Alyssa Heimbach (Palm, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) was an honorable mention-selection.

Pabon, a defensive midfielder, was honored as a first-team selection for the second year in a row after helping lead an outstanding Bullet defensive unit. While posting seven points on one goal and a team-leading (tied) five assists, she helped Gettysburg hold its opponents to a 1.42 goals-against average, a mark that ranks second in the Centennial Conference. The Bullets are also tied for the conference lead with a single-season school record 10 shutouts.

Earning her first all-conference honor was Hearn, Gettysburg's leading scorer this season. She finished with 25 points on 10 goals and five assists and leads the Centennial Conference with seven game-winning goals, one shy of the school record. She finished her career with 76 points, 31 goals – seventh in school history in both categories – and 14 assists. Even more impressively, Hearn did not miss a game in her career, playing in 74 straight contests.

Latta garnered her third all-conference citation after earning second-team honors last season and honorable mention recognition in 2007. A strong two-way player, Latta tied for fourth on the team in scoring with nine points on three goals and three assists. For her career, she finished with 27 points, nine goals, and nine assists.

Anderson turned in a fine senior year between the pipes, setting school record with a conference-leading nine shutouts en route to her first all-conference selection. Playing all but 42 minutes, she was the goalie of record in every game and finished 14-5 with a 1.35 goals-against average (second in the Centennial), and 58 saves. In her two years as a starter, she finished 27-11 with 16 shutouts, a 1.43 goals-against average, and 146 saves.

Heimbach, another first-time All-CC honoree, enjoyed success on both ends of the field this season. She posted five goals and tied for the team lead with five assists to finish third among the Bullets with 15 points. Also one of the team's top one-on-one defenders, she was a crucial part of the team's defensive success. In addition, she handled all of Gettysburg's penalty corners.

The Bullets closed out the season with a record of 14-5, including an 8-2 mark in the Centennial Conference. Gettysburg, which finished with a No. 17 national ranking, posted its highest victory total and highest final ranking since 2005.
