Bullets Fall to Bears 6-3

Kelly Eurich won both her matches at second doubles and second singles against Ursinus.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Ursinus College won a pair of three-set decisions to close singles play en route to a 6-3 victory over Gettysburg College in Centennial Conference women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Bullets to 7-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

Gettysburg jumped into the victory column early as junior Kelly Eurich (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) teamed with freshman Liz Heisler (Gwynedd, Pa./Wissahickon) for an 8-2 decision at No. 2 doubles. The lead was short-lived as Ursinus (8-6, 4-5 CC) turned in 8-3 and 8-6 wins at first and third doubles, respectively.

Eurich made short work of Julia Kurtz at second singles, churning out a quick 6-0, 6-1 victory. The Bullets were still hanging strong despite setbacks at No. 1 and No. 6 singles as freshman Kylle O'Sullivan (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) came up with a 6-4, 6-1 decision at fourth singles.

Ursinus clinched the win with wins at third and fifth singles. At No. 3, junior Meghan Kelly (Easton, Conn./Kent School) opened with a 7-6 (4) tiebreaker win against Laura Ng, but Ng bounced back for a 6-1 decision in the second set and took the super tiebreaker 10-8. After dropping the first set 6-0, senior Mary McConnell (Rye, N.Y./Rye) came back with a 6-4 win in the second set before falling 6-2 in the third.

Gettysburg next hits the court against nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins University in a home affair on Tuesday, April 21, at 4 p.m.
