SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior
Adrian Macdonald (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) and sophomore
Greg Minnick (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) each won an event to lead the Gettysburg College indoor track & field teams at the Susquehanna University Orange & Maroon Classic Saturday afternoon at the Garrett Sports Complex.
The women's team was led by freshman Joy Fry (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore), who took second in the high jump (4-11 3/4) and fifth in the long jump (15-8 3/4).
There was not team scoring at the meet.
Macdonald beat out 37 other runners with a stellar performance in the 3,000-meter run, winning by nearly six seconds and coming within a second of the school record. Macdonald was clocked at 8:53.95, just off the mark of 8:52.21 set by
Greg Cumming '09 in 2009. Minnick cleared 6-4 in the high jump, beating out 21 other competitors and clearing two inches more than his nearest competitor.
Senior
Greg Baron (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) threw 41-5 to place fifth in the shot put while Minnick took sixth in the triple jump (41-6 1/2), as did sophomore Brendan Repack (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) in the 3,000 (9:09.91) and junior
Clay Reynolds (Medway, Mass./Worcester Academy) in the mile (4:26.55).
Sophomore
Nick Rosenberger (North Wales, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep.) also broke the top-eight, taking seventh in the 55-meter hurdles (8.52).
Also finishing among the top-three for the women's team was senior
Kerrin Epstein (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia), who placed third in the 5,000-meter run (18:43.36). Classmate
Sarah Fritz (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) was fourth in the 3,000 (10:53.90) while junior
Megan Murphy (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) was sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:04.25).
Senior
Vanessa Pabon (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) placed sixth in the triple jump (33-8) and eighth in the long jump (15-4) while freshman
Kerry Campbell (Carlisle, Pa./Trinity) and junior
Casey Lumpkin (Newtown, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) each took eighth, with Campbell finishing the mile in 5:42.32 and Lumpkin clocking a 1:04.66 in the 400.
A handful of Gettysburg athletes will compete at the Ursinus Pentathlon Meet on Wednesday before the rest of the team resumes its schedule next Saturday at the George Mason University Patriot Games.
