YORK, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's tennis team swept doubles play in its non-conference match at York (Pa.) College on Saturday, and the Bullets shut the door with straight-set wins at first, second, and fifth singles to earn a 6-3 victory.
Gettysburg (4-2) kicked off its northern schedule by taking out York's (3-6) doubles teams. Senior
Kevin Raynes (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) and freshman
Chris Curran (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) ran off an 8-2 win at No. 3 and the Bullets' top pair of senior
Dale Beshore (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) and sophomore
Mike McLaughlin (Hanover, Pa./South Western) posted an 8-6 victory. Sophomores
Terry Keegan (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) and
Sebastian Rodriguez (Plano, Texas/Plano West) put the finishing touches on the sweep with a 9-7 win at the second flight.
The Orange and Blue took each of the top-two matches in the singles lineup as Curran improved to 7-2 on the year with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Paul Graci at No. 1. Beshore took care of business against Steve Collison at the second position with a 6-3, 6-1 decision, improving to 4-5 overall.
Rodriguez upped his singles mark to 5-1 on the year with Gettysburg's final victory at the fifth flight, defeating Justin Hostetter 6-3, 6-1.
Gettysburg returns to the courts on Thursday, March 25, with a non-conference road trip to Goucher College. Opening matches begin at 4 p.m.
