Women’s Lax Picked Third in IWLCA Poll

Bullets remain in top three for third week

The Bullets play three games in Texas over spring break.

IWLCA Division III Week 3 Poll (March 8, 2010)

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team was picked third in the most recent edition of the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III poll released on Monday, March 8.

Gettysburg (2-0, 1-0 CC) had moved up to second in last week's national ballot, but Salisbury University (5-0) jumped in front of the Bullets on the strength of five wins to open 2010. The Sea Gulls totaled 377 points and four first-place votes to edge Gettysburg, which tallied 370 points and a pair of first-place looks. Franklin & Marshall College (1-0) remained the No. 1 squad for the third consecutive week, accumulating 391 points and 14 first-place votes.

Outside the top three, only two other schools in the poll's top 10 have played games this week, though that did not prevent some movement. 2009 semifinalist Hamilton College jumped ahead of The College of New Jersey into fourth. Middlebury College and Colby College remained sixth and seventh, respectively, with Babson College (2-0) moving up three spots to eighth following a pair of season-opening victories. Tufts University and Catholic University (1-1) rounded out the top 10.

Gettysburg, which has totaled 37 goals in wins over the University of Mary Washington (19-8) and Washington (Md.) College (18-9) resumes action this week with three games in San Antonio, Texas. The Bullets face Wittenberg University and Colby-Sawyer College today at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. respectively. The team's biggest test to date will take place on Thursday, March 11, as the Orange and Blue face 10th-ranked Catholic at 10 a.m.
