TOWSON, Md. – Junior linebacker Larry DelViscio of the Gettysburg College football team has been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Football Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced Tuesday.

DelViscio, who earned second-team recognition, becomes the 17th Academic All-American in school history. An economics major with a 3.60 grade-point average, he is the fourth Gettysburg football player to capture the honor and the first since Cliff Mason '03 collected first-team recognition in 2002.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution, and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

DelViscio, who was named to the All-Centennial Conference Team as an honorable mention last month, led Gettysburg with 100 tackles, the most by a Bullet since Harold Barton '08 also had 100 in 2006. In his second year as a starter, he racked up 70 solo stops and finished second on the team in tackles for loss (13.0) and sacks (3.5) to help the Bullets go 6-4 and tie for third in the Centennial Conference at 6-3. DelViscio logged double figures in tackles in five of his last six games, including a season-high 13 in a win over Muhlenberg that earned him Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week. He also had three pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, and an interception and finished the year ranked second in the conference in tackles per game (10.0) and tied for sixth in tackles for loss per game (1.30).

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports. For more information about the Academic All-America program, please visit www.cosida.com.
