Gettysburg notches runner-up finish at conference championship

THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg placed three runners in the top 14, earning All-Centennial Conference (CC) honors in the process, to lead the way to a second-place finish at the 2024 CC women's cross country championship hosted at Big Spring High School. The Bullets scored 62 points in their best finish at the championship since 1995.

THE LEADERS
• Kathryn Hopkins (Taneytown, Md./Winters Mill) led the Bullets with an eighth-place finish for the best individual finish since 2017, posting a time of 22:33.8 on the 6,000-meter course.

FOR THE FOES
• Johns Hopkins won its 16th straight championship and third straight with a perfect score of 15. Adriana Catalano won the individual crown with a time of 21:57.3.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• Gabrielle Thiry (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School) followed Kathryn Hopkins across the line in ninth place with a time of 22:36.6.
• Ava Crawford (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) came home 14th overall with a time of 23:03.1.
• Rowe Crawford (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) finished 17th with a time of 23:07.9 while Carys Cook (Wimberley, Texas/Lauralton Hall) placed 19th with a time of 23:14.9.
• Sarah Smith (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) was 27th (23:51.4) while Elyse Tancini (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) was 30th (23:59.2).
• Franny Proto (35th, 24:14.1), Emily Trout (47th, 24:50.3), Abbey Woodcome (51st, 24:59.5), Julia Brock (52nd, 25:02.7) and Kyla Lorden (67th, 25:47.7) rounded out the Bullet competitors.

THE INSIDE STORY
• A total of 100 runners competed at the 6,000-meter distance.
• Kathryn Hopkins turned in Gettysburg's second-best time on the course while Gabrielle Thiry's time was third.
• Ava and Rowe Crawford posted the No. 5 and No. 6 times, respectively, at Big Spring for the Bullets.
• Carys Cook rounded out a quintet of top-eight all-time marks, ranking eighth on the course.
• Hopkins and Thiry posted the fourth and fifth-best marks in a conference championship race for Gettysburg. Thiry had the Bullets' best time for a first-year runner.

Gettysburg returns to action at the NCAA Div. III Regional hosted at Lock Haven on Saturday, Nov. 16. Action begins at 11 a.m.
