Former Bullet Rick Vanderlin begins his first season as an assistant coach with the Gettysburg men's and women's swimming programs in 2019-20.
A 1977 graduate of Gettysburg, Vanderlin is the program's former record holder in the 200 and 500 freestyle events as well as the 400 freestyle relay. As a senior, he served as a volunteer assistant with the Bullets and helped guide seven individuals to the NCAA Division III Championship.
After graduating from Gettysburg, Vanderlin went on to serve as a volunteer assistant for three seasons at Penn State University. He earned a law degree from the Dickinson Law School in 1983 and operated a private practice for three decades in Williamsport, Pa. Vanderlin later served as house counsel to Digital Patient, Inc., in Forth Worth, Texas, before retiring in 2013. He has competed in triathlons for over 30 years and qualified for the Ironman World Championship in 1985.
