James Boyeas will enter his first season as an assistant football and second year as an assistant track & field coach at Gettysburg in 2011. He will serve as the football team’s wing backs/wide receivers coach and the track team’s strength and conditioning coordinator.
A Parma, Ohio native, Boyeas comes to Gettysburg from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. Last season, he helped the Lakers win the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) title and reach the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs as the tight ends coach and assistant offensive line coach. He also helped coach a player who was named an All-American and the GLIAC Offensive Lineman of the Year, along with a tight end who earned second-team All-GLIAC honors.
Boyeas has also served as an assistant coach at Lake Erie College (Painesville, Ohio) in 2008-09 and Valley City State University (Valley City, N.D.) in 2007. At Lake Erie, also a member of the GLIAC, he coached wings and tailbacks for the Storm and helped two tailbacks capture all-conference recognition. Boyeas started his coaching career at Valley City State in 2007, serving as the tight ends and assistant offensive line coach for the Vikings, a member of the NAIA, while helping one tight end receive All-Dakota Athletic Conference honors.
As an undergraduate, Boyeas played football at Heidelberg University, where he was a three-year starter at tackle for the Student Princes. He earned his team’s Most Improved Offensive Player Award in 2005 and went on to play for the Continental Indoor Football League’s Steubenville Stampede as a tight end for one season. He graduated with a degree in health and physical education in 2007.
