GETTYSBURG STAYS ON TRACK FOR CONFERENCE TITLE WITH 4-2 WIN OVER JOHNS HOPKINS

GETTYSBURG, PA --- Adam Outerbridge scored two goals and Jeremy Shapiro added a goal and an assist to lead No. 17 Gettysburg past Johns Hopkins, 4-2, in Centennial Conference action on Wednesday.  With the win, the Bullets improved to 13-1-2 and 6-0-1 in conference play.

Jason Vishio added an insurance goal and Chris Pryor collected two assists to help Gettysburg run its unbeaten streak to 14 games and move the Bullets within two victories of their first Centennial Conference championship since 1993.  Gettysburg wraps up its regular-season schedule with games at Franklin & Marshall and Dickinson over the next two weekends.

Sam Steinman and Joey Bonomolo each scored for Johns Hopkins (11-3, 5-2), which fell to 0-3-1 in its last four games at Gettysburg.  Ryan Kitzen and Aerik Williams added assists in the loss.

Shapiro opened the scoring in the 10th minute, netting his sixth goal of the season off a goal-mouth scramble. Less than seven minutes later, Outerbridge finished a header from Pryor to give the Bullets a 2-0 edge.  Jessie Flynn also recorded an assist on the goal.

Johns Hopkins cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 20th minute when Steinman took a pass from Kitzen and buried his third goal of the season on a blast from the left side of the 18-yard-line.

Outerbridge finished a semi-breakaway in the 49th minute off a feed from Pryor to re-establish the Bullets' two-goal cushion at 3-1.  The goal was Outerbridge's second game-winning goal of the season and his seventh overall in 1999.

After Gettysburg goalie Nick LaPorta made a crucial save on a point-blank shot by Paul Galli in the 72nd minute, Vishio put the contest out of reach with his eight goal of the year off a restart in the 76th minute.

Bonomolo closed on the scoring in the 83rd minute with his second goal of the season off an assist from Williams.

LaPorta finished the day with three second-half saves to pick up the win for Gettysburg.  Each team collected nine shots and 22 fouls on the afternoon.
