BACKCOURT, PFEIL LEAD GETTYSBURG PAST ELIZABETHTOWN, 74-62

GETTYSBURG, PA. --- Starting for the first time this season, Curtis McNeil (Alexandria, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) responded with a career-high 20 points to help Gettysburg defeat Elizabethtown, 74-62, in non-conference action on Saturday.  With the win, the Bullets improved to 4-3.

     Terence Callahan (Bellport, NY/St. Anthony's) also set career-highs with 17 points and seven assists for Gettysburg while teammate Richie Pfeil (Thurmont, MD/Gov. Thomas Johnson) posted a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

     Bob Porambo led all scorers with 21 points for Elizabethtown (2-5) while Mark Sweet collected all of his 10 points and five rebounds in the second half.  Rocky Parise (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) dished out a team-high five assists for the Blue Jays, who saw their two-game winning streak against the Bullets come to an end.

     Gettysburg never trailed on the afternoon, taking the lead for good on a layup by McNeil that made it 9-7 with 16:31 left in the first half.

     McNeil scored another layup and a three-pointer to fuel a 13-2 run over the next five minutes that put Gettysburg on top 22-9 with 11:06 remaining before halftime.

     Elizabethtown fought back to within 35-29 at the break, but the Bullets opened the second half on a 12-2 run to take their largest lead of the game at 47-31 with 15:59 remaining.  Pfeil keyed the streak with five points and Callahan capped it with his second three-pointer of the game.

     The Blue Jays, however, chipped away at the Gettysburg advantage behind Sweet and Porambo, who scored 11 of his 21 points after halftime.  E-town cut the lead to 66-62 with 1:58 left on a driving layup by Brian Marquette (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest), but the Bullets held their guests scoreless the rest of the way while closing out the victory on an 8-0 run.

     Also scoring in double figures for Gettysburg was Centennial Conference leading scorer Bill Davidson (Lebanon, PA/Annville-Cleona), who poured in 14 points to go along with three rebounds.  Matt Nikoloff added eight points for Elizabethtown while Chris Sattele (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) scored six points.

     Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday, December 21 at Division I Lafayette College.  Game time is 8 p.m.
