BIG SECOND HALF PUSHES NAVY PAST GETTYSBURG, 91-55

ANNAPOLIS, MD. --- John Williams led three Midshipmen in double figures with 20 points and added a career-high seven rebounds to lead Navy past Gettysburg, 91-55, in non-conference action on Tuesday.  With the loss, the Bullets fell to 4-5.

Curtis McNeil led Gettysburg with 11 points while Greg Schreiber (Mechanicsburg, PA/East Pennsboro) added eight points,  six rebounds and five assists in the loss, the Bullets' seventh straight to the Midshipmen.

Sitapha Savane added 17 points and six rebounds to help Navy improve to 6-4.

Navy threatened to run away with the game in the opening minutes, jumping out to an 18-4 lead with only 4:48 gone in the first half.

The Bullets, however, answered with a 15-5 run over the next 7:19 to cut the deficit to 23-19 with 7:49 left following a bucket by Bill Davidson (Lebanon, PA/Annville-Cleona).  McNeil fueled the run with five points while Antoine Gaither added all four of his points during that stretch.

Navy reeled off an 8-0 run over the next 3:18 to stretch its advantage to 31-19 with 4:46 left in the half.

Schreiber scored four of his eight points to fuel an 8-1 Gettysburg spurt that pulled the Bullets within 32-27, but the Midshipmen closed out the half on a 9-2 tear that gave the hosts a 41-29 edge at the half.

Gettysburg shot 13-for-26 (50.0 percent) from the field in the first half and outrebounded the Midshipmen, 17-16.

Chris Williams scored six of his 14 points during an 8-3 Navy run that gave the Midshipmen a 49-32 lead with 17:49 left in the game.  Gettysburg would get no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

John Schnebly pitched in with six second-half points for Gettysburg while Cody Bowers, Mike Monroe and Brad Billmeier each added five points apiece.

The Bullets return to action on Friday, January 7 at the Moravian College Greyhound Classic in Bethlehem.  Gettysburg will battle Waynesburg College at 6 p.m.
