GETTYSBURG BATTLES MESSIAH TO 1-1 TIE

GETTYSBURG, PA --- Clayton Krum scored a goal and Nick Laporta made 11 often-spectacular saves as Gettysburg and Messiah played to a 1-1 tie in non-conference action on Saturday.  With the draw, the Bullets are 3-1-1 on the season.

It was Messiah goalkeeper Chris Boyles who made the save of the game, however, stopping a penalty kick by Chris Pryor in the 86th minute that kept the score knotted at 1-1.  The Falcons (4-1-1) outshot Gettysburg 9-1 during the 30 minutes of overtime, but couldn't knock the winner past LaPorta, who made four saves in the extra periods.

Krum opened the scoring off a pass from Jason Vishio in the 35th minute, redirecting a cross past Boyles.  The goal was Gettysburg's first against the Falcons in four games, dating back to 1996.

Messiah answered in the 78th minute when Hayden Woodworth headed a pass to Jake Sauer, who directed a header over LaPorta to put the Falcons on the board.  Sauer led all players with five shots for the game.

Messiah outshot the Bullets, 18-7, on the afternoon while the teams combined for 59 fouls and six yellow cards.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, September 18 at Washington College in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams.  Game time is 1 p.m.
