SWARTHMORE, Pa. --- Gettysburg forward Megan McDonald had a career day, but Swarthmore's Heather Kile led four players in double figure with 15 points and added 17 rebounds to pace the Garnet to a 55-53 win in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday.
McDonald poured in a career-high 24 points and added a team-high eight rebounds as the Bullets fell to 10-6 (5-4 CC). The senior forward, who had missed the previous game due to an ankle injury, knocked down three 3-pointers to double her career total and added one blocked shot in 33 minutes.
Kelsey Williams added seven points for Gettysburg while Jay Hodge scored six. Carrie Kulp and Steph Drevna – the team's two leading scorers – were held to five points on the evening, 19 points below their combined season average.
Heather Marandola and Sarah Tufano scored 14 points apiece for Swarthmore (10-7, 6-1 CC) while Caitlyn Ryland also reached double figures with 10. Swarthmore outrebounded Gettysburg 47-34 on the evening while holding the Bullets to 28.3 percent (17-for-60) shooting from the floor.
Following a first half in which both teams combined for only nine field goals and 30 points, Kile – the conference's leading scorer and rebounder – scored 12 of her 15 points to help the Garnet build a 46-35 lead with 2:50 remaining.
Swarthmore converted 9 of 12 free throws in the final 1:49 to hold off a furious Gettysburg comeback and lock up the 55-53 win. The Bullets closed out the game on an 18-9 run that featured single 3-pointers from Kulp and Drevna and two treys from Williams in the final 63 seconds.
