GETTYSBURG FALLS TO MONTCLAIR ST. 63-56 IN FIRST ROUND OF DAYS INN TOURNAMENT; BULLETS WILL FACE SUSQUEHANNA ON SATURDAY

GETTYSBURG, PA. --- Marlena Lawrence led four players in double figures with 18 points and Stephanie Croley converted three key free throws in the game's final seconds to lead Montclair St. to a 63-56 victory over Gettysburg in the first round of the Days Inn Tournament on Friday.  The Bullets, playing for the first time since December 11, fell to 8-2 while losing at home for the first time this season.

Kerry Shine scored 15 points and Stephanie Ellerbe added 13 points and eight rebounds to help the Red Hawks improve to 3-7 and advance to Saturday's championship game against Wheeling Jesuit, a 62-50 winner over Susquehanna in the night's first semifinal.  Game time is 3 p.m.

Carrie Kulp scored a team-high 14 points while Jamie Dawson added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Bullets, who will host Susquehanna in the consolation game on Saturday at 1 p.m.  Kelsey Williams responded with 12 points and four rebounds for Gettysburg after replacing injured starter Steph Drevna in the starting lineup.  The Bullets shot only 22-for-67 (32.8 percent) from the field on the night and committed 32 turnovers.

Gettysburg took its final lead at 5-4 when Mandy Wilson converted a layup with 16:32 remaining in the first half.  Layups from Lawrence and Shine on the Red Hawks' next two possessions keyed a 6-0 burst that put Montclair St. on top for good at 10-5 with 15:21 left in the half.

The Red Hawks led by as many as 11 points in the first half and used a 16-for-29 (55.2 percent) shooting performance from the floor to take a 36-28 lead into the locker room.  Lawrence scored 15 of her 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting in the first half and her only field goal of the second half put Montclair St. ahead 56-50 with 2:53 left in the game.

Gettysburg pulled to within 56-54 when Dawson scored while being fouled and Megan McDonald followed up Dawson's missed free throw for two of her seven points on the game.

Shine and Kulp traded baskets to keep the Montclair St. lead at 58-56 with 26 seconds left.  Ellerbe, a 70.3 percent free throw shooter entering the night, notched the first free throw, but missed the second to make it a three-point game.  Croley, however, hauled in the crucial offensive rebound to force another Bullet foul before draining two more charity tosses to seal the victory.

In the night's first contest, Division II Wheeling Jesuit used 10 points apiece from Sarah Barbisch and Nicole Gratton and a 57-29 rebounding edge to down defending tournament champion Susquehanna 62-50 in the night's first game.
