SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Andrew Addonizio (Cutchogue, NY/Mattituck) scored the game-winner and his first goal of the 2000 season as Gettysburg blanked Swarthmore 3-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Saturday.
Gettysburg (11-3, 4-1 CC), which is on a six game winning streak, has won eight of its last nine contests, including the last four by shutout.
The Bullets scored its first goal when Addonizio made a run out of the backfield and connected on the business end of a Joe Rice (Wyomissing Hills, PA/Wyomissing) lofted corner kick. Before the half was out, the Bullets pushed their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Mike Bevilacqua (Marshfield, MA/Thayer Academy). Michael McLaughlin (Swampscott, MA/Northfield Mt. Hermon) was credited with the assist.
The Bullets picked up their third goal of the contest in the second half when Jeremy Shapiro (Leonia, NJ/Fieldston School) escaped the Garnet defense on a breakaway and beat Swarthmore goalie Chris Milla to the net. Milla posted nine saves on the afternoon.
Gettysburg outshot Swarthmore 18-6 and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bullets return to action on Saturday, October 21 at Centennial Conference foe Ursinus. Game time is 1 p.m.
