GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Lauren Melillo (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) scored two goals while Rachael Rzemieniewski (Neshanic, NJ/Immaculata) and Maureen O'Donnell (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy) each tallied a goal and two assist to lead Gettysburg past Swarthmore 8-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Saturday.
Julia Girman (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), Taryn Chomik (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic), Emily McAuliffe (Lowville, NY/Lowville) and Sara Gwiazdowski (York, PA/Central York) each recorded a goal on the afternoon to help Gettysburg (9-4-2, 6-1-2 CC) win its second straight CC game. Nicole DeSantis (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) rounded out the Bullet scoring with her third assist of the season.
Carine Doyle (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) made one save in the Gettysburg net, while relief keeper Jessica Jordan (Aurora, NY/Southern Cayuga) notched two saves in the final 19 minutes of play.
Katie Langmore (Boxboro, MA/Acton-Boxboro) fired a team-best seven of Gettysburg's 30 shots on the afternoon. Swarthmore (4-11, 1-8 CC) posted seven shots while Garnet goalkeeper Catherine Salussolia made 11 stops between the pipes.
Gettysburg cracked the scoreboard first when Rzemieniewski buried her sixth goal of the season of a long cross from DeSantis at the 11:41 mark.
At 37:01, Swarthmore's Jackie Khan broke free of the Bullets' stranglehold on midfield and netted the equalizer to end the first half with the score locked 1-1.
It only took 27 seconds into the second half for Gettysburg to re-locate the Garnet net, as McAuliffe notched her team-best seventh goal of the season. Chomik and Girman extended Gettysburg's lead to 4-1 before Swarthmore's Heather Marandola sank the Garnet's second goal of the day of an assist by Anna Masilela.
Gettysburg makes final regular season appearance Saturday, October 28 at Western Maryland College. Game time is 11 a.m.
