Gettysburg comes from behind to beat Dickinson, 3-2

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Rachael Rzemieniewski (Neshanic, NJ/Immaculata) scored the tying goal and assisted on the game-winner as Gettysburg came from behind to beat Dickinson, 3-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Wednesday.  The win extends the Bullets CC record unbeaten streak to 24 games.

With the score locked at 2-2, and 6:02 remaining on the clock, Rzemieniewski took control of a loft from the backfield and pushed the ball past the defense to freshman Katie Langmore (Boxboro, MA/Acton-Boxboro).  Langmore sped past the last Red Devil defender and powered a left-footed shot off the right post and into the net, securing the win for Gettysburg (7-2-1, 4-0-1 CC).

Despite Dickinson's (7-3-2, 2-2-1) 2-1 lead in the second half, it was Gettysburg that found the net first in the contest.  Leading goal scorer Emily McAuliffe (Lowville, NY/Lowville Academy) received the ball from Nicole DeSantis (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) at 16:42, and knocked home her personal record sixth goal of the season.

With the Bullets pressing hard to extend their lead, Allison Marciniak chipped the ball over Gettysburg's pulled-up defense, where leading goal scorer Alyssa Carlow scored the first Dickinson goal against Gettysburg since 1993.

The end of the first half saw the score knotted 1-1, but Carlow returned in the 57th minute to give the Carlisle 11 the 2-1 lead.  Amy Montalbano gained possession on the Gettysburg end line and flighted the ball to the far post where Carlow hammered home her twelfth goal of the season.  Montalbano leads Dickinson with six assists.

With the clock winding down, and the Red Devil offense knocking on the goal posts, Langmore stripped the ball from the Dickinson midfield and played it forward to fellow freshman Liz Wesolowski (White Plains, NY/Ursuline).  Wesolowski dribbled to the corner of the 18 and drove the ball through the box to Rzemieniewski, who half-volleyed the ball through Red Devil goalkeeper Susan Palmer, leveling the score 2-2 at the 72:50 mark.  The assist was Wesolowski's first collegiate point.

Six minutes later Carlow threatened to tie the score again, this time with a quick series of breakaways that left one shot off the crossbar and another over the goal.

With renewed vigor, the Bullet defense delivered the ball to Rzemieniewski again, setting up the play that pushed Gettysburg to the win.

Gettysburg outshot Dickinson 16-10 and held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Bullets return to action on Saturday, October 7 at home against No. 4 College of New Jersey.  Game time is 2 p.m.
