BALTIMORE, Md. – Aerik Williams scored off a long throw-in from Ryan Hanley in the 31st minute to lift Johns Hopkins over Gettysburg 1-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Wednesday.
The Bullets (12-5, 5-3 CC) were eliminated from the conference playoff picture with the loss, while the Blue Jays (13-2-2, 8-0 CC) locked up their third CC title in the past five years and earned the Centennial's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Jeremy Shapiro (Leonia, NJ/Fieldston School [NY]) managed the only two Gettysburg shots on the night while Bullet goalkeeper Steve Kopp (Upper Montclair, NJ/Montclair) made five saves in place of injured starter Nick LaPorta (Chevy Chase, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase). Johns Hopkins held a 15-2 edge in shots and a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks on the evening.
Gettysburg wraps up its 2000 regular season on Saturday, November 4 at home against Dickinson College. Game time is noon.
