HAVERFORD, Pa. – Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) led four players in double figures with 16 points as Gettysburg outscored Haverford 49-6 in the second half en route to a 78-25 win in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Tuesday.
Leading 29-19 at halftime, the Bullets (2-1, 1-0 CC) scored the first 23 points of the second half while holding the Fords to three field goals after the break. Haverford's 25-point effort was the lowest output for a Gettysburg opponent since a 76-23 Bullet win at Goucher on December 2, 1988.
Steph Drevna (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) scored 13 of her 15 points in the first half while Jay Hodge (Silver Spring, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) added 14 points and Keriann Van Nostrand (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan Reg.) also hit double figures with 13 for Gettysburg.
After Haverford's Katisha Gopaul tied the game at 2-2 with 16:55 left in the first half, Drevna scored the game's next six points on two free throws and two field goals to make it 8-2 at the 15:54 mark.
The Bullets stretched the lead to 21-8 on a bucket from Adrienne Simmons (Douglasville, PA/Daniel Boone) with 6:16 remaining and took a 29-19 lead into the half when Drevna drilled her lone 3-pointer of the night with 10 seconds left.
In the second half, it was – almost literally – all Gettysburg.
Led by nine points from Bear and six from Van Nostrand, the Bullets opened up a 33-point lead with a 23-0 run through the first 6 minutes and 13 seconds of the second half. Kate Westhuis stopped the run with a bucket at the 12:35 mark before Gettysburg scored 26 of the game's final 30 points.
The Bullets shot 66.7 percent (22 of 33) from the floor in the second half while holding the Fords to a 12.0 percent (3 of 25) showing from the field after halftime.
Simmons finished with six points and five rebounds for Gettysburg while Karyn Waszmer (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) added four points and a team-best eight rebounds in her collegiate debut.
The Bullets return to action on Wednesday, November 29 at Ursinus College. Game time is 7 p.m.
