Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. --- Freshman guard Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) scored a career-high 22 points to help Gettysburg down Ursinus 61-56 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Wednesday.

Bear drilled four 3-pointers on the night, including two in the final 2:09 to help the Bullets (3-1, 2-0 CC) withstand a furious Bears' rally and win their second straight conference road game.

Ursinus (1-4, 0-1 CC) trailed 35-19 at halftime, but rallied to within 55-54 with 2:09 remaining before Bear drilled treys on back-to-back possessions to seal the win.

Gettysburg forward Jay Hodge (Silver Spring, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) scored 11 points and tied a career high with 16 rebounds to notch her second double-double of the season.  Steph Drevna (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) also scored in double figures with 11 points and dished out a career-high eight assists.

Kate Giusto led the Bears with 21 points while Erin Hussey tossed in eight of her 10 points after halftime.

Gettysburg opened the game on a 20-6 run and took a 35-19 lead - it's largest of the game - into the locker room thanks to 10 first-half points from Bear and seven from Drevna.

The Bullets held a double-digit advantage until Hussey knocked down a pair of 3-pointers on consecutive Ursinus possessions to pull the Bears within 46-40 at the midway point of the second half.

Ursinus used a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 50-49 with 5:07 remaining, but Bear knocked down a 3-pointer and Hodge converted a fast-break layup to restore Gettysburg's six-point lead.

Erica Maurer knocked down a 15-footer and Bridget Hussey drained a 3-pointer to again cut the lead to one at 55-54 with 2:37 remaining.

On the Bullets' next possession, however, Bear knocked down a 3-pointer from the top of the circle with the shot clock running down to give the Bullets a 58-54 lead with 2:09 left.

Following a turnaround jumper by Katie Shearer, Bear drilled her final trey of the game with 1:20 left to put the Bullets on their way to the win.

Katie Hewes (West Chester, PA/Villa Maria Academy) scored four points and added eight rebounds while Jen Nolan (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley) added five points, five rebounds and two assists in her first action of the 2000-01 season.
