ANNVILLE, Pa. --- Junior forward Miriam Anthony (Denver, PA/Cocalico) scored a career-high 28 points, including 15 in a nine minute span of the second half, pulled a game-high 10 rebounds and posted eight steals as the Lebanon Valley College women's basketball team defeated Gettysburg College 76-54 in non-conference action at Lynch Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
Anthony shot 11-of-20 from the field and 6-for-7 from the line in surpassing her previous high of 24 set in wins over Juniata and Marywood earlier this season. She also notched four assists and blocked two shots in 33 minutes of action. Junior guard Lora Zimmerman (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) complemented Anthony's performance with seven points, six rebounds, five assists and eight steals.
Freshman center Steph Tighe (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) added 17 points and seven rebounds as the Flying Dutchwomen (15-7) improved to 5-0 in non-conference home games this season, winning by an average of 31.8 points per game.
Gettysburg was led by sophomore guard Steph Drevna (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), who scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. Katie Havens added nine points and 10 rebounds off the bench, while freshman center Cory Dallas (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) blocked a career-high five shots in just 14 minutes.
Lebanon Valley led 37-29 at halftime as Anthony scored 13 points and pulled six rebounds in the opening 20 minutes, while Tighe posted nine points and four rebounds. The Dutchwomen exploded out of the locker room as they built their advantage to double figures and maintained it for the rest of the evening. For the game, Lebanon Valley shot 34.5 percent but held the Bullets (12-10) to just 29.3 percent from the floor and forced Gettysburg into 25 turnovers.
Freshman forward Chrissy Bigler (Columbia, PA/Columbia) played 26 minutes at forward and scored six points with eight rebounds, while senior guard Serenity Roos (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) nailed a pair of three-pointers on her way to eight points on the evening.
Lebanon Valley will continue the hunt for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) playoff berth on Thursday, February 17 at 7:30 p.m., against Albright College at Lynch Gymnasium. The Dutchwomen trail Juniata and Messiah by one game for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Commonwealth Conference
Gettysburg returns to action for their final game of the season on Saturday, February 19, at Centennial Conference opponent Dickinson College. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
