GETTYSBURG, Pa. --- Bill Davidson (Lebanon, PA/Annville-Cleona) scored all of his game-high 15 points in the second half – including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 4:27 left – and added a team-high eight rebounds to lead Gettysburg past Haverford 70-63 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday.
Ryan Napp added 14 points for the Bullets (12-8, 5-4 CC) while Jim Natale scored a career-high 11 points off the bench to help Gettysburg win for the eighth time in its last 11 games and stay in the conference playoff chase. Greg Schreiber (Mechanicsburg, PA/East Pennsboro) tied a career high with nine assists while Curtis McNeil poured in 10 points to go along with a career-best seven rebounds for Gettysburg.
Mukul Kanabar led Haverford (3-17, 1-8 CC) with 15 points while Tim Mulvaney (11 points) and Mark Maggiotto (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Fords, who dropped their seventh straight game.
Gettysburg led 34-28 at halftime and pushed its advantage to 38-30 with 18:33 left before Haverford answered with an 11-3 run to tie the game at 41. Maggiotto converted four free throws during the run while Kevin Gregory capped the stretch with five of his seven points.
Richie Pfeil put the Bullets back up at 43-41 with a layup with 13:34 to go, but Matt Duffy drained a 3-pointer on the Fords' next possession to give the visitors their first lead of the game since the 6:58 mark of the first half.
The lead changed hands four more times in the next 8 minutes and 14 seconds before Haverford took its last lead of the game at 56-54 on a 3-pointer from Mulvaney with 4:41 left.
On the ensuing Gettysburg possession, Davidson drilled a 3-pointer to give the Bullets the lead for good and spark an 11-1 run that made it 65-57 with two minutes to play.
Mulvaney cut the lead to five with another 3-pointer, but Gettysburg converted 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
The Bullets threatened to run away with the game in the early going, streaking to a 13-2 lead in the game's first 5 minutes and 7 seconds. Following a Haverford timeout, the Fords responded with a 14-2 run of their own to take a 16-15 lead with 10:47 remaining before halftime.
Following the win, Gettysburg remains one game behind Johns Hopkins and Dickinson (both 6-3 in the CC) for the Centennial Conference West division's second and final playoff spot. The Bullets trail first-place Franklin & Marshall (7-2 CC) by two games heading into their rematch with the Diplomats on Wednesday night in Lancaster. That game tips off at 8 p.m. Gettysburg downed F&M 85-59 on January 15 in Bream Gymnasium.
