GETTYSBURG, Pa. --- Dana Lichtenfels poured in six of Juniata's tournament-record 11 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 19 points as the Eagles knocked off Gettysburg 83-63 in the championship game of the Fifth Annual Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday.
Tournament most valuable player Mollie Lyman collected 15 points along with 11 rebounds while Brandy Preslovich also recorded a double-double with 12 points and a team-high 13 boards to lead Juniata (14-6) to its first Gettysburg Invitational championship. Kelli Young dished out 10 assists to go along with 10 points for the Eagles, who shot 60.9 percent (14-for-23) from the floor in the second half and 57.9 percent (11-for-19) from three-point range for the game.
Carrie Kulp led Gettysburg (12-7) with 14 points and nine rebounds while Jamie Dawson scored 11 along with nine boards and was named to the all-tournament team. Steph Drevna added 13 points for the Bullets while Katie Havens scored a season-high 10 along with six rebounds.
Lichtenfels, who also earned a spot on the all-tournament team, knocked down four or her six 3-pointers in the first 6 minutes and 28 seconds of the second half to turn a 36-32 Juniata lead into a 53-40 advantage with 13:32 left.
Dawson scored on back-to-back put-back baskets and Drevna converted a layup after a steal to pull the Bullets within 53-46 at the 11:46 mark.
Lichtenfels answered with her tournament record-tying sixth 3-pointer of the game and Kim Kelly followed with two free throws to push the Juniata lead to 58-46.
Keyed by six points from Kulp, Gettysburg went on a 9-2 run to pull within 60-55 with 6:19 left. The Eagles then reeled off 14 of the game's next 17 points to open up a 74-58 lead and cruise to the victory.
Kelly Grove added 12 points for Juniata while Jay Hodge tallied six points and eight rebounds for the Bullets, who fell to 2-3 in Gettysburg Invitational championship games.
Notre Dame (Md.) defeated Hood 54-35 in the tournament's consolation game on Saturday. Hood's Mandy South and Notre Dame's Karen Burley were named to the all-tournament team.
Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday, February 8 for a key Centennial Conference matchup at Franklin & Marshall College. Game time is 7 p.m.
