GETTYSBURG, Pa. --- Ric Bremer (Ridgefield, CT/John Jay [NY]) matched a career high with five goals and Tommy Pearce (Chestertown, MD/Woodberry Forest [VA]) added two goals and two assists to lead second-ranked Gettysburg over Widener 14-3 in non-conference action on Wednesday.
Ross Garretson (New Hope, PA/Germantown Academy) and Pete Milliman (Rochester, NY/Canterbury [CT]) each tallied two goals and one assist for the Bullets (3-0), who broke a 1-1 tie with five unanswered goals in the second quarter en route to the victory in their 2000 season home opener. Gettysburg outshot the Pioneers 49-18 on the afternoon while recording their 18th straight win against Widener, but first since 1992.
Mike Zolochik led the Widener (0-3) offense with one goal and two assists while Scott Ward and Tom Robson also found the net in the losing cause. Pioneer goalie Pat Carmack made 19 saves in the midst of Gettysburg's season-high 49-shot barrage.
Widener jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 4:30 left in the first quarter when Robson buried his first goal of the season off a feed from Zolochik. The Bullets answered late in the first period when Pollak scored an unassisted goal with 20 seconds left.
The Gettysburg offense arrived in the second quarter to help the Bullets take charge. Pearce scored only 38 seconds into the period and Garretson made it 3-1 with an unassisted tally at the 13:27 mark. Bremer and Milliman added goals to push the Bullet advantage to 5-1 with 8:50 remaining before halftime. Bremer then capped the period with an unassisted goal with 37 seconds left in the half.
Behind two more goals from Bremer, who also scored five times in Gettysburg's season-opening win over Drew on March 4, the Bullets outscored Widener 5-2 in the third period to take a commanding 11-3 into the final quarter.
Gettysburg goalie Andrew Barter made five saves while allowing only three goals on the afternoon. Pollak finished with a pair of goals on the game while Christian Cronin also tallied his first goal of the season in the win.
The Bullets, currently ranked second in Division III, return to action on Saturday, March 18 at home against 12th-ranked Rennselaer. Game time is 1 p.m.
