MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- Courtney Todd posted a career-high nine strikeouts in a game-one shutout to help Gettysburg sweep a doubleheader from Alvernia College, 3-0 and 2-1, on Thursday at the Snowbird Softball Tournament.
Karyn Miller drove home Jen White with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning of game two as the Bullets wrapped up their spring break trip with a perfect 7-0 record.
In game one, Jenna Pabst, Karyn Miller and Megan Wargo all scored in the first inning to stake Gettysburg to a 3-0 lead. Todd did the rest, blanking the Crusaders on four hits while fanning nine to pick up her third victory of the week.
In the nightcap, the Bullets trailed 1-0 after six innings before rallying to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. Stephanie Mastropaolo, who also collected an RBI in the first game, drove in Kelsey Williams to knot the game at 1-1 and force the extra frame.
In the Bullet eighth, White was placed on second base to start the inning and moved to third on a single by Emily Boardman. Miller followed with a single of her own to plate White and give Gettysburg the 2-1 win. Sarah Stokes worked all eight innings to pick up the win for the Bullets, allowing only one run on three hits while striking out two.
Gettysburg opens its northern schedule on Saturday, March 25 with a home doubleheader against Washington (Md.) College. The first game starts at 1 p.m.
