NO. 2 GETTYSBURG IMPROVES TO 6-0 WITH 15-2 STIFLING OF CORTLAND ST.

CORTLAND, N.Y. --- Ric Bremer (Ridgefield, CT/John Jay [NY]) scored four goals while Charlie Hanchett (Annapolis, MD/Stony Brook [NY]) and Mark Pollak (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock) added three points apiece to lift second-ranked Gettysburg to a 15-2 win over No. 14 Cortland St. in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

     Pete Milliman (Rochester, NY/Canterbury [CT]) and Wes Cadman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) added a pair of goals for the Bullets (6-0), who trailed 2-1 with after the first period before scoring the game's final 14 goals en route to their sixth straight win.

     Pollak also scored twice and added one assist while Hanchett counted a pair of assists among his three points.  Andrew Barter (N. Brookfield, MA/Tabor Acad.) and Eric Gregg (Narberth, PA/Episcopal Acad.) combined for six saves in the Gettysburg net while facing only 19 shots.  The Bullets stifling defense also forced the Red Dragons (2-2) into 16 failed clears out of 31 overall attempts while recording a season-high 60 ground balls.

     Goals by Anthony Sabatino and Brian Levings staked Cortland St. to a 2-1 lead until Bremer scored his second goal of the game 42 seconds into the second period to tie the game at 2-2.  Pollak put the Bullets on top to stay with an unassisted goal at 11:28 and Cadman scored off a feed from Hanchett 46 seconds later to make it 4-2.

     Goals from Milliman and Bremer gave the Bullets a 6-2 lead at halftime.  Matt Twombly (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) and Milliman scored goals 11 seconds apart to make it 8-2 Gettysburg with 12:03 left in the third period before Hanchett picked up his second assist on a Cadman goal less than two minutes later to push the Bullet lead to 9-2.

     John Rice (Carlisle, MA/Loomis Chaffee [CT]) capped the scoring with the first goal of his collegiate career at the 1:05 mark of the fourth period.  Jason Carlstrom (Far Hills, NJ/West Morris Mendham) won 11 of 14 faceoffs for the Bullets while Milliman recorded a team-high 11 ground balls.

     Gettysburg, currently ranked second in Division III, returns to action on Saturday, April 1 at home against No. 1-ranked and defending NCAA champion Salisbury St.  Game time is 1 p.m.
