GETTYSBURG, Pa. --- Megan Wargo (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) singled home Jen White in the bottom of the 10th inning of game two to give Gettysburg a doubleheader split against Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Saturday.
The Mules (5-13, 1-1 CC) took advantage of nine Bullet errors to win the first game, 6-1. Behind Wargo and a strong complete-game performance from Sarah Stokes, Gettysburg (10-1, 3-1 CC) recovered to take game two, 2-1, splitting with Muhlenberg for the fourth straight season.
White went 3-for-7 on the afternoon and scored both runs in the game-two victory. Wargo scored Gettysburg's only run of the first game and added a double in game two.
In game one, Muhlenberg used three hits and five errors to score six times in thefifth inning en route to the win. Heather Dreby did the rest to pick up the win for the Mules, going the distance while allowing one run on four hits. Courtney Todd took the hard luck loss for Gettysburg to fall to 4-1 on the season.
Trailing 1-0 with two outs in the seventh inning of game two, Muhlenberg plated the tying run on a rare illegal pitch ruling. With runners on second and third, Melissa Nardi stepped out of the batter's box without receiving timeout from the umpire, causing Stokes to stop her delivery. Kristen Best, the Mules' runner on third, was awarded home plate to tie the game at 1-1 and force extra innings.
In the 10th inning, White was placed on second by rule to start the inning, moved to third on a sacrifice from Mandy Wilson and scored on Wargo's two-strike, two-out infield single.
Stokes improved to 4-0 on the season, scattering eight hits while striking out two
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, April 4 with a doubleheader at Catholic University. The first game begins at 3 p.m.
