NO. 1 SALISBURY ST. DOWNS NO. 2 GETTYSBURG, 14-3

GETTYSBURG, Pa. --- Chris Turner scored four goals and added two assists to lead top-ranked Salisbury St. past No. 2 Gettysburg 14-3 in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Rob Bates added a goal and two assists to help the defending NCAA champion Sea Gulls (10-0) win for the 19th straight game and avenge their only loss of the 1999 season.  Jimmy Barnes scored Salisbury St.'s first goal and set up the second to help the visitors race out to a 6-0 lead before the Bullets (6-1) got on the scoreboard midway through the second quarter.

Ric Bremer (Ridgefield, CT/John Jay [NY]) led Gettysburg with two goals while Tommy Pearce (Chestertown, MD/Woodberry Forest [VA]) also scored in the loss.  Pete Milliman (Rochester, NY/Canterbury [CT]) set up both of Bremer's goals while Charlie Hanchett (Annapolis, MD/Stony Brook School [NY]) also picked up an assist.  Andrew Barter (N. Brookfield, MA/Tabor Acad.) made eight saves in the Bullet net while facing 29 Sea Gull shots.

Looking very much like the No.1 ranked team in Division III, Salisbury St. scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter en route to a 6-0 lead.  Barnes opened the scoring off a feed from Turner 1:57 into the contest then set up Tim Parks at the 8:44 mark to make it 2-0 in favor of the Sea Gulls.

Ryan McKenzie and Joe High found the net 59 seconds apart later in the quarter to stretch the lead to 4-0 with 4:03 left.  Turner, a first-team All-America selection in 1999, made it 6-0 with a pair of unassisted goals in the first four minutes of the second period before Gettysburg cracked the scoreboard on a extra-man goal by Pearce with 3:47 left in the half.

Salisbury St. answered with 52 seconds left in the half when Turner set up Bates to make it 7-1 at the intermission.  Bremer scored the first of his two goals with 9:18 left in the third quarter to pull Gettysburg within 7-2, but the Sea Gulls scored seven of the game's final eight goals to close out the win.

Gettysburg and Salisbury St. each took 29 shots on the afternoon.  The Bullets went 1-for-7 with the extra man while the Sea Gulls converted on 1 of 2 man-up chances.

The Bullets return to action on Wednesday, April 5 at home against Haverford College in their Centennial Conference opener.  Game time is 4 p.m.
